First, I want to address that if you are selling something, anything at all, YOU ARE AN ENTREPRENEUR (at least in my book). I say this because a lot of my viewers are makers, bakers, and women with side-hustles who haven’t committed to full-time entrepreneurship or to starting an actual business yet. That’s okay! We all start somewhere and your goals are likely different than my goals and the goals of other entrepreneurs.
Secondly, this post is for those who sell services AND for those who sell products…
Let’s face it, we ALL need photos to market what we have to offer, and I want to help you succeed at the thing you feel called to do no matter what stage of entrepreneurship you are in.
Lastly, the more styles of photos you have to promote yourself and your offers, the better, but I truly believe the styles mentioned in this post are the strongest for entrepreneurs and what you should have to really market yourself in a way that helps consumers take you seriously.
Now, let’s hop into the good stuff…
Below are 3 Types of Photos EVERY Entrepreneur Needs to market their offers:
1. HEADSHOTS

HEADSHOTS are photos taken from the shoulders up with the focus on the subjects face. They are used to convey professionalism in a simple setting, ideally in a studio with a plain or “on-brand” backdrop. What are some ways headshot photos should be utilized? Headshots make for eye-catching profile pictures on LinkedIn or Instagram, inviting “About Me” photos on business websites and in biographies, and even work great in digital or printed marketing material, like social media posts and business cards. They allow an audience to easily recognize the person in the photo and link it to a name (either the entrepreneurs name, brand name, or business name). Why is it important to show a closeup of your face as an entrepreneur? Although it may be out of your comfort zone to be in front of the camera, it is important to understand that people like to buy from real people. In other words, showing your face and personality in a professional setting via a quality image allows a viewer to feel like they know who they are buying from. Headshots are a fantastic way to start building trust with your audience.
2. PERSONAL BRANDING PHOTOS

PERSONAL BRANDING PHOTOS work similarly to a headshot by helping the viewer link a face to a brand, but they are usually taken with a wider scope and have a little more personality. In other words, personal branding photos often go a step further than headshots by showing the person behind the brand, rather than just the face, and sometimes they include the type of products or services being sold by the entrepreneur. A few examples would be a photographer holding a camera, a chef in a kitchen with a delicious meal she just prepared, or a professional hair and makeup artist (HMUA) in an HMUA chair as pictured here. The background may be as simple as they typically are in headshot photos or they can be taken in a way that highlights an environment that is relevant to the brand. When your audience views your face in a photo of you selling the product that they need in a setting where they are likely to find it or use it, they tend to build even more trust in your brand and feel a sense of connection with it. The key is to an amazing personal branding photo is to keep everything “on brand” for your business with the right attire, poses, facial expressions, props, scenery, etc.
3. LIFESTYLE PHOTOS

LIFESTYLE PHOTOS take all of the above even further through the involvement of models, real customers, clients, and/or employees. They aim to showcase real people working with (or for) you to obtain (or provide) a specific service or product. They can also involve capturing real people using a product or receiving a service. Lifestyle photography gives an awareness of who you are and what you have to offer in a relatable way to help an audience imagine what it would be like purchasing your offer from you.
Arguably so, you may find that you could really use other types of photos to market yourself as an entrepreneur, such as some EXTERIOR PHOTOS to show off the location where you sell products or services, or even the target area that you want to cater to. Also, INTERIOR PHOTOS may draw attention to a shop, market event, or space in which you sell products or provide a service, even if you don’t own a space already. PRODUCT PHOTOS are another great way for those who sell products to showcase what customers can expect when they purchase them and are typically useful on a website or ad.
I love helping entrepreneurs step into whatever it is that they feel called to do…
